Master of Science in the field of Population-based Field Epidemiology

POSTGRADUATE ADMISSION IN 2008

 

Applications are invited for admission in 2008 to the Msc. in Population-based field epidemiology by coursework and research report.

 

Minimum requirement: A graduate who has been awarded a Bachelor of Science degree which is not less than four year study.

Funding: There are a limited number of fellowships available through INDEPTH, WHO/TDR, and other funding bodies.

Why Wits School of Public Health?

The School is a dynamic vibrant environment offering teaching programmes which are well-evaluated, oversubscribed and internationally recognised.  They are designed to meet the needs of the 21st century public health professionals and reflect the values of the School: to promote equity and human rights, and to meaningfully respond to the needs of the people on the African continent.

 

The content of the master programme includes epidemiology, biostatistics and data management, information technologies for demography and health surveillance and leadership in research management plus a substantial field placement in an African Health and Demographic Surveillance site. It focuses on developing competency of researchers in longitudinal data management to respond to the key public health challenges of the developing countries. Coursework is 12 months full time with a further 6-month field placement.
