INDEPTH NETWORK

INDEPTH SESSION AT FORUM 7

Geneva, Switzerland; 2-5 December 2003

The INDEPTH Network will hold an information session in Geneva, Switzerland to take advantage of the Global Forum for Health Research meeting there.

The theme for this year’s session is: Demographic Surveillance Systems and their contribution to Health Research in Developing Countries.

The current scientific agenda of the Network will be presented. This includes the establishment of an INDEPTH Health Intervention Trials Platform and the INDEPTH Scientific Development and Leadership Programme. There will also be scientific presentations on completed, ongoing and planned cross-site initiatives of the Network. These will include:

1.     Population-based HIV surveillance in the Africa Centre Demographic Surveillance Area, Northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa: Initial Results;

2.     HIV / AIDS Research within the INDEPTH network;

3.     Health Equity at INDEPTH sites; and

4.     INDEPTH Model Life Tables for sub-Saharan Africa.
