Workshop Report

 

The Migration Interest Group of the INDEPTH research network organised this three-day workshop focusing on Migration and Urbanisation at INDEPTH DSS sites. The overall goal was to formulate a research agenda on migration and urbanisation for INDEPTH network sites, as a basis for the development and submission of grant proposals in this sphere.

 

The conference was hosted by the Health and Population Division of the School of Public Health (Agincourt DSS), University of the Witwatersrand and supported by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, USA. Participants included scientists from INDEPTH network sites, as well as certain notable authorities in the field of migration and urbanisation in developing settings.

 

Specific Objectives of the meeting:

 

  • To assess the status data collection and research on migration among INDEPTH sties
  • To identify critical areas and gaps in research on migration and urbanization at INDEPTH sites
  • To develop a substantive agenda for multi-site research on migration and urbanization among a selected subset of INDEPTH field sites.

 

At the meeting, invited presentations examined the state of research and data collection on migration and urbanisation at INDEPTH sites.
