Consultative Meeting on the development of a Health Informatics Programme

In line with its capacity building/strengthening activities, INDEPTH is taking advantage of a new programme in health informatics at the University of Ghana to strengthen capacity of its member sites in research and use of computer-based tools and information management in health care delivery. These will include data storage, information retrieval, data analysis, and data communication. INDEPTH will be supporting 2-3 students from INDEPTH sites to participate in this programme.

 

A 2-day meeting was organised at the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research by the school of School of Public Health (SPH), University of Ghana -Legon (16 – 17 February 2004). The meeting brought together experts from diverse fields to discuss and agree on the curriculum for the proposed Master’s Degree programme in Health Informatics. Based on inputs from the meeting, the curriculum is being finalised and will be submitted to the University’s Academic Board. INDEPTH facilitated the participation of Professor Bruce Macleod from the University of South Maime, USA. Bruce Macleod has been working with many INDEPTH sites in the deployment of the Household Registration System (HRS) and is helping the SPH to develop the IT component of the course.
