INDEPTH-NETWORK
An International Network of field sites with
continuous Demographic Evaluation of Populations and Their Health in
developing countries
INDEPTH is dedicated to
the identification of critical developing world health and social issues, the
coordination of cross-site, longitudinal studies and interventions to address
these issues, and the translation of research findings into improved health
and social policy and practice. INDEPTH is a non-profit international health,
population and social research organization with a Secretariat based in Accra,
Ghana. The network currently includes 37 member demographic surveillance
system (DSS) sites located across Africa, Asia and Latin America
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Duties/Functions
The Executive Director of
INDEPTH will contribute leadership to network efforts and is responsible for
the ongoing management and development of the INDEPTH network. She/he is
accountable to the Board of Trustees of INDEPTH. Primary responsibilities
include:
· Managing
INDEPTH’s projects, resources and budgets on behalf of the Chair and Board of
Trustees, including
o
managing
full-time Secretariat personnel and overseeing financial matters, information
technology, external relations and communications, and other administrative
functions
· Developing
and implementing new strategies to
o
enhance
network visibility
o
improve
site capabilities, and
o
facilitate
collaborative efforts with complementary organizations
· Ensuring
the initiation and completion of network-level (i.e., cross-site) research,
including both
o
prioritizing projects and opportunities, and
o
optimizing
site participation
· Coordinating
fund-raising activities for the INDEPTH network
· Regular
reporting on the status of the INDEPTH network and its research program to the
Board of Trustees and INDEPTH members
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate
will possess a doctoral degree in epidemiology, demography, public health or a
related field, with several years of progressively responsible post-graduate
experience in a relevant research institution or international organization.
He or she will have a demonstrated track record of successful project
completion within the developing world, demonstrated leadership skills,
analytic skills, management capability and credibility with scientists and the
donor community. Previous fundraising experience and a working knowledge of
the challenges faced by demographic surveillance sites are preferred. The
Executive Director will establish a close working relationship with the Chair
of the Board of Trustees, working together to further develop the network.
The position will pay
a salary to the UN P5 (with comparable benefits). The initial tenure of the
position is three years and renewable based on performance. The position is
available immediately.
The Executive Director
will be based in Accra, Ghana and the position requires fluency in English.
Proficiency in French is a useful asset. Nationals from sub-Saharan Africa or
Southeast Asia are preferred.
